The Brumbies take on the Hurricanes, in their round four match at Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

Hello from the windy @Super_Couch, where I’ll be keeping you up to date with this evening’s blockbuster between the ACT Brumbies and the Wellington Hurricanes, which kicks off at 5.35pm Canberra time.

The last time these teams met was in round 16 last Super Rugby season at Canberra Stadium, where the Brumbies came out on top 30-23 winners.

The Brumbies have taken a massive blow this week, losing star player David Pocock for the rest of the season to a second round of knee surgery, while centre Pat McCabe is on the bench after suffering some muscle damage to the neck he’s broken twice. Brumbies captain Ben Mowen has said they want to “Do it for Poey”, to give the world-class flanker something to smile about while he watches it on the TV. Let’s see how they go.

Here’s the line-ups:

BRUMBIES: Jesse Mogg, Henry Speight, Tevita Kuridrani, Andrew Smith, Robbie Coleman, Matt Toomua, Nic White, Ben Mowen (capt), Jarrad Butler, Scott Fardy, Sam Carter, Leon Power, Ben Alexander, Stephen Moore, Scott Sio. Reserves: Josh Mann-Rea, Ruan Smith, JP Smith, Jordan Smiler, Lachlan McCaffrey, Conrad Hoffmann, Pat McCabe, Lionel Cronje.

HURRICANES: James Marshall, Cory Jane, Conrad Smith (capt), Cardiff Vaega, Julian Savea, Beauden Barrett, TJ Perenara, Blade Thomson, Jack Lam, Adam Hill, Mark Reddish, Jeremy Thrush, John Schwalger, Dane Coles, Ben Franks. Reserves: Motu Matu’u, Chris Eves, Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, James Broadhurst, Ardie Savea, Chris Smylie, Alapati Leiua, Marty Banks.

Matty Toomua leads the Brumbies out on to Windy Park, which is sponsored by a wind-generated electricity company. The Wallabies No.12 is playing his 50th Super Rugby game for the Brums. Hopefully it’s a cracker!

Everyone knows about the hipster beard trend sweeping the world at the moment, but gee whiz there’s some wonderful moustaches on display in this game. Of course, none finer than Brumbies captain Ben Mowen’s. He really looks a lot like what I imagined Biggles to look like…

5 minutes: Not really much happening, so the perfect time to shoutout to Brumbies and Wallabies flanker David Pocock! Hope someone has brought him some grapes to eat in hospital. Good to see he’s watching the game…

That was a cracking falcon on Sam Carter! Sure to be played a few times in team review… #HURvBRU— David Pocock (@pocockdavid) March 7, 2014

And we’re away! Robbie Coleman collects the ball…the Brumbies have started positively, with Henry Speight charging down the wing early before they look for field position.

11: Oh dear, the Brumbies continue their kicking woes, that’s their second one out on the full for the game already. It was a shame given some fantastic work by the forwards to repel a Hurricanes maul and force the turnover as the home team pressed. And a great hit by Henry Speight helps relieve the pressure….

16: Oh dear again, Robbie Coleman showed some blistering pace to get back to a Hurricanes kick back towards the Brumbies line but has fumbled it. Then he brought down the Wellington No.10 Barrett, the TMO is having a look, but says it’s accidental and the Hurricanes get the scrum just 5m out…

18: The Brumbies have lost their sure handling of last season, have started 2014 dropping a few balls they should do better with. Luckily the Hurricanes are struggling to pass the ball as well…and the pressure is relieved momentarily…

Is anyone having trouble reading the Brumbies’ white numbers on their jerseys? My boss is struggling to work out who’s who, but I told him he should learn what they look like better…

20: Another penalty converted by Barrett and the Hurricanes extend their lead 6-0. The score probably flatters the Brumbies…

Good to see the love for the Bro with the Fro! If he isn’t wearing a gold jersey later this year it will be a crime…

Henry Speight is really looking in good shape this year. Serious contender for Wallaby 14. #ssrugby#HURvBRU— CoucH_Rugby (@CoucH_Rugby) March 7, 2014

24: Great line break by Nick Nack Patty Mac!!! Great to see him running freely down the middle of the field, but the Brumbies can’t convert the opportunity, throwing the ball out of play and giving away the scrum. McCabe started this game in place of Andrew Smith at inside centre, but wearing the N0.22 jersey!

7: So the Brumbies give away a penalty not far out and almost directly in front for leaving their feet at the breakdown. Hurricanes lead 3-0.

26: The attacking Brumbies continue to attack! Nic White kicks for the corner with points on offer. A pattern followed consistently since Jake White ran off and left Steve Larkham and Laurie Fisher in charge!

28: Brumbies maul it from the lineout, but are held up. Scrum time! Really excited to see how the Brumbies scrum goes tonight…

29: Nic White goes blindside, flicks it back inside to Scott Fardy, but he spills it and the danger is gone. The Hurricanes give away another penalty. White will take the kick this time and look for the Brums’ first points of the game. He slots it nicely. Hurricanes 6-3.
